When you stroll through the streets of downtown Dunedin you get a sense that something is missing. But that’s a good thing; since it is the absence of prominent commercial signs, golden arches and retail franchises that distinguish this small town from its neighboring communities. However, just because a place is quaint and charming doesn’t mean it lacks a stylish restaurant where you can find great food and drinks at reasonable prices. Dunedin has such a place, Café Alfresco; a favorite of locals, seasonal residents and tourists.

Set along the Pinellas Trail in the heart of “Main Street”, walkers, joggers, bicyclists, skaters, shoppers and area business people find it the convenient and perfect place to enjoy a light bite or full meal. As the name implies, the restaurant provides an outdoor dining experience (although a glass enclosure protects you from the elements). It’s like being at a picnic, only better—the atmosphere and attire are casual, but you don’t have to prepare the meal and there are no bugs! In addition, you can watch the passers-by without being obvious.

The menu has a European flavor with good American fare, as well. Everything is freshly prepared by Chef Roger and served by a friendly, knowledgeable and eager-to-please staff. Saturday and Sunday Brunch on the sunlit patio is a wonderfully, tasty affair. (The omelets are overstuffed and the French toast is très yummy.) And how romantic is sharing dinner followed by a richly decadent dessert and cappuccino under the stars! If a leisurely breakfast and romance aren’t your thing (well, it is possible) you can always order from the “Alfresco to Go Menu” and meet the gang at the beach which happens to be right down the road apiece. Or, meet for drinks to celebrate a birthday, the end of the workday/workweek, or before or after participating in the many events the city hosts. Creative cocktails are a specialty and there is an assortment of bottles of beer on their wall from which to choose. Chill out, have fun, enjoy. When you’re in “delightful” Dunedin it’s what you do. And at Café Alfresco you can do it well.
